  • The Originals List, a momentum-building campaign presenting the best original feature, pilot, vertical scripts and decks to Hollywood production companies, studios & international producers.

  • Produced by Visionaries, an exclusive event series co‑hosted with Forbes, bringing together bold creators and top executives.

What is Wscripted+?

2. Wscripted Impact Initiatives

What is the Cannes Screenplay List?

The Cannes Screenplay List is a prestigious annual list of top scripts by women and non‑binary writers, launched during the Cannes Film Festival.

Key points:

  • First launched in 2021 during the Cannes Film Festival.

  • Presented by MUBI since 2021, reflecting a shared commitment to powerful, original films by women.

  • Supported and endorsed by high‑profile artists such as Vanessa Kirby and Mounia Meddour.

  • Over multiple editions, the list has highlighted dozens of projects from many countries, giving producers and financiers a trusted place to find remarkable female‑led stories.

The Cannes Screenplay List works more like a festival program than a simple contest:

  • A reading committee acts like programmers, selecting projects for a shortlist (similar to an official selection).

  • A jury of respected filmmakers and decision‑makers then nominates the final projects for the list based on their own creative interests.

  • The final selection is shared widely with the industry, helping producers and financiers discover which projects to read, champion, and support.

Even writers who are not on the final list can benefit from the campaign, because their projects remain discoverable and recommended on Wscripted+.

Eligibility: Women and non-binary writers or filmmakers (co-writers are accepted) can apply with a feature film script in English, French, or Spanish.

How to submit: Upload your feature on Wscripted+ (select “screenplay” and “this is my project”). Then head to wscriptedplus.com/cannesscreenplaylist to choose which project to submit, accept the entry terms and submit your project.

What is the Originals List?

The Originals List is a momentum‑building campaign that showcases outstanding original feature, TV, and vertical (microdrama) projects ready to meet the market.

It follows the same philosophy as the Cannes Screenplay List, but opens the door to a broader range of original projects.

Core principles:

  • Original work only. All submissions are spec scripts and original projects—features, TV pilots, or vertical scripts—supported by a pitch deck.

  • Reading Committee. Wscripted’s reading committee does not use AI to read or review scripts. Writers can choose to use AI to help draft their summaries on Wscripted+, but all coverage and commentary for the list are written by people.

  • Curated. Wscripted acts as a tastemaker, not a high‑volume service. The team selects projects they stand behind and do not flood the industry.

  • Celebrity jury. A high‑profile jury selects up to 35 original projects to appear on the Originals List.

  • Exposure. Finalists present their work at a pitch event in Los Angeles, directly to executives looking for new material. Some projects may receive offers for funding, first look, or other development opportunities.

At its core, the Originals List is about momentum:

  • Nominees are featured in an Originals List booklet shared with 5,000+ production companies, agents, and financiers.

  • Projects gain visibility on the Wscripted+ platform, through promotion and jury endorsement.

  • Inaugural nominees continue to be highlighted in future materials, not just once and forgotten.

Eligibility: Writers can apply with a feature film script, TV pilot, or vertical script and a pitch deck in English, French, or Spanish. The script must be an original work by the applicant.

How to submit: Upload your feature, pilot or vertical script on Wscripted+ (select “screenplay” and “this is my project”). Then head to wscriptedplus.com/originalslist to choose which project to submit, accept the entry terms and submit your project.

How do the Cannes Screenplay List and Originals List work with Wscripted+?

When you apply to the Cannes Screenplay List or the Originals List, you are not only applying to a list—you are entering a campaign plus platform ecosystem.

During and after each campaign:

  • Nominated projects are actively promoted to thousands of industry professionals.

  • Producers and executives can discover scripts on Wscripted+ based on their interests, even if a project was “only” on a shortlist or was not ultimately selected.

  • Summaries, pitch decks, and audio help busy producers quickly see whether a script fits their slate.

The combination of curated list + Wscripted+ discovery creates momentum that can lead to:

  • Options and financing talks.

  • Attachments and development meetings.

  • Produced work.

To keep projects actively discoverable and recommended to producers, applicants need to maintain an active Wscripted+ Storyteller profile. For a low monthly fee, Storyteller membership ensures:

  • Scripts appear in targeted searches and tailored recommendations.

  • Pitch decks, summaries, and faster‑speed audio make it easier for producers to see if a project is right for them.

  • If one script is not the right match, the system can suggest other relevant projects, which could be one of your projects.

What is “Produced by Visionaries”?

“Produced by Visionaries” is an invite‑only annual series hosted during the Cannes Film Festival that brings together creative disrupters and industry leaders to spotlight the next generation of producers reshaping storytelling in media.

  • The first edition featured Alex Coco (ANORA, Palme d'Or Cannes 2024), Christine D'Souza Gelb (BABY GIRL, Nicole Kidman, Best Actress at Venice Film Festival 2024), and Carlos Suarez Estrada (DIDI) for a conversation about the future of the industry and independent filmmaking.

  • The second edition featured a fireside chat with Ro Donnelly and Samantha Racanelli from Dakota Johnson's TeaTime Pictures (DADDIO), followed by a conversation with Eva Longoria about the future of storytelling and international collaborations.

As part of the series, the Produced by Visionaries’ Emerging Producer Award celebrates independent producers who are pushing filmmaking boundaries—through bold storytelling or innovative approaches to production, financing, and distribution.

You can learn more about the 2025 Emerging Producer Award recipient at here.

6. AI & Copyright Protection

To learn more, you can read our Op-eds on Medium, or follow us on Instagram or Linkedin.

4. Discovery & Getting Read

How do I get discovered without agents or reps?

Writers are most often discovered through curated and trusted pathways, including:

  • Platforms like Wscripted+ that promote projects to producers based on their interests

  • Labs and fellowships that spotlight new voices

  • Script competitions and industry lists

  • Programs within production companies or studios that actively seek emerging talent

  • Personal and professional networks built at festivals, workshops, and online communities

Wscripted+ focuses on interest‑aligned discovery so your work is surfaced to professionals actually looking for your themes, genres, and tone.

How do I get my script read by execs?

Executives are far more likely to read your script when:

  • The concept and logline clearly fit their mandate

  • There are signals of quality or traction (labs, awards, strong coverage, previous work)

  • The material reaches them via a trusted pathway (agent, manager, curated platform, or program)

On Wscripted+, execs can:

  • Set their interests and filters, then receive aligned projects

  • Review your logline, synopsis, themes, and comps before requesting access

  • Request to read your script on a safe platform that protects them from unsolicited content

Your job is to ensure the script and its positioning (logline, synopsis, tags) are strong so that when it appears in their feed, it stands out.

How do I get my screenplay noticed?

To get your screenplay noticed:

  • Craft a clear, compelling logline that communicates your hook in one or two sentences

  • Write a concise synopsis that shows the story’s stakes, world, and tone

  • Upload your script to reputable discovery platforms like Wscripted+ that actively connect you with aligned producers, not just store files

  • Enter select, high‑quality competitions, labs, and fellowships that have a real track record of career results

  • Keep your profile updated with credits, awards, and new work

On Wscripted+, your project is promoted based on producer interests, increasing the odds that it is seen by people actively seeking your kind of story.

How many scripts do I need to be taken seriously as a screenwriter?

Most industry professionals expect:

  • At least two polished scripts

  • Three scripts is ideal

One script rarely signals readiness. Multiple strong samples show consistency, range, and that you can deliver beyond a single idea.

What are the top platforms for screenwriters to get discovered?

Screenplay discovery platforms are services that connect scripts to industry readers, rather than simply store files. Key types include:

  • Curated story discovery platforms like Wscripted+, which curates and recommends content to producers based on their interests

  • Ratings and score‑based platforms like The Black List and Coverfly

  • Script hosting databases and courses like Stage 32 and InkTip

  • Festival and market portals that curate and showcase a limited slate of projects

For writers who are looking to get their projects read by the right producers, Wscripted+ is built to break barriers and improve on what legacy platforms offer.

How is Wscripted+ different from legacy databases?

Legacy screenplay databases often showcase scripts based on scores, ratings, or pay‑to‑play visibility, which tends to favor writers who already have access and resources.

Wscripted+ is built differently. It focuses on:

  • Intelligent matching between your project and what producers say they are looking for

  • IP protection, with encryption, access control, and view/download logs

  • Bias‑reduced discovery, so strong work can be found even if you do not have representation, awards, or elite program credits

For writers who care about both safety and getting matched to the right readers, Wscripted+ is a modern alternative to legacy databases.

How does Wscripted+ help writers be discovered and producers find the right scripts?

Wscripted+:

  • Promotes projects to producers and executives based on stated interests (genre, themes, tone, format)

  • Reduces bias by focusing on creative fit rather than credentials alone

  • Protects IP through secure storage and controlled access

  • Opens new paths for diverse and global voices to be read by the right professionals

For producers, executives, and reps, Wscripted+:

  • Provides curated recommendations instead of unfiltered slush piles

  • Offers intelligent search filters (genre, themes, logline, comparative titles, tone)

  • Helps mitigate legal risk by operating within a system of consent, access logs, and clear terms

5. How to submit to Producers

How do I find a producer for my script?

To find the right producers:

  • Research producers and companies whose slates match your genre, tone, and budget level

  • Use discovery platforms like Wscripted+, where producers define their interests and receive matching projects

  • Apply to labs, fellowships, and markets that explicitly connect selected writers to producers and financiers

  • Track producers’ announcements and prior projects so you only target those truly suited to your story

Wscripted+ does much of that work for you, routing your script to producers whose stated preferences align with what you’ve written.

Do producers read cold submissions?

Generally no. Most producers, studios, and companies do not accept unsolicited submissions for legal reasons.

Instead, they rely on:

  • Agents and managers

  • Personal networks and referrals

  • Labs, fellowships, and curated lists

  • Trusted platforms like Wscripted+ where writers consent to sharing material

On Wscripted+, producers can read projects in an environment where terms of use and explicit consent reduce legal risk around unsolicited scripts.

What do producers look for first?

Common early filters include:

  • Original, high‑concept or clearly defined ideas

  • Strong, concise loglines

  • Unique point of view and voice

  • Market viability and clear audience

  • Alignment with their current or future slate

  • Evidence of writing quality (previous work, labs, contests, staffing, etc.)

Wscripted+ helps surface this information upfront so decision‑makers can quickly determine fit.

Do producers care about first‑time writers?

Yes—if the script is strong and aligned with their slate.

Producers often prefer a compelling spec script they can package and finance over a project that requires building everything from scratch. A first‑time writer with strong material and a clear voice can absolutely stand out if the project fits the producer’s goals.

How can producers source scripts in specific genres?

Producers can source scripts in specific genres by using genre and theme filters on discovery platforms.

On Wscripted+, you can:

  • Filter projects by genre (for example drama, horror, sci‑fi, limited series)

  • Narrow further by themes, tone, and comparative titles

  • Use AI‑assisted discovery to surface projects that match your creative and commercial brief

Instead of reading hundreds of mismatched submissions, you focus on a curated shortlist of high‑fit projects.

How does Wscripted+ protect producers from legal risk?

Wscripted+ is designed to reduce the legal friction around reading scripts:

  • Writer consent – writers actively agree to share their projects with specific professionals who request access

  • Terms of use – clear terms help manage risk around unsolicited materials

What are the best platforms for screenwriters to submit to producers?

The most effective channels for connecting writers and producers today include:

  • Wscripted+, which promotes projects to producers based on their creative interests

  • Reputable script competitions and fellowships with transparent juries and real outcomes (meetings, representation, production)

  • Labs and mentorship programs run by production companies, festivals, and organizations focused on emerging voices

Do I need a lawyer for every contract or option?

While not legally required in every situation, having an entertainment lawyer is strongly recommended for:

  • Option and purchase agreements

  • Long‑form writer, producer, or director deals

  • Complex collaborations or co‑writing arrangements

If you cannot afford a private lawyer, look into:

  • Legal clinics at film schools or law schools

  • Bar association referral services

  • Nonprofit organizations serving artists and creators

A small investment in legal review can protect years of creative work.

6. AI & Copyright Protection

Is it risky to paste scripts into AI tools?

Yes, it can be.

  • Many external AI tools may retain or train on the content you paste

  • Once your script is in a third‑party chat, you cannot easily control where it goes or how it is used

  • Producers who receive scripts by email may paste them into AI tools to summarize, which can expose your work to unnecessary risk and misrepresentation

Wscripted+ allows controlled AI summaries that are not used to train external models and that you can edit or replace.

What are safe ways to use AI as a screenwriter?

Safer use cases include:

  • Brainstorming alternate loglines or titles

  • Generating marketing copy, taglines, or social blurbs

  • Drafting synopses, character bios, or pitch materials based on your guidance

  • Organizing notes, ideas, or outlines

In general, avoid pasting your entire script into tools with unclear data policies. Use AI to support your work, not to store your IP.

What should I check in any AI tool’s terms before uploading my script?

Look for clear answers to:

  • Data storage – how is your content stored and can you delete it?

  • Training usage – make sure your script is not used to train or improve models.

  • Ownership and control – make sure you retain ownership and control access of your IP.

  • Social and ethical policy – is the company transparent about how they use AI? If not, it’s a red flag. Learn more Wscripted’s IP and Copyright Protection Policy here.

If any of these are unclear, be cautious about pasting your full script.

What’s the safest way to share my screenplay with a producer?

Safest options:

  • Use a password‑protected platform with access logs and controlled view permissions (like Wscripted+).

  • Share links that can be revoked and do not allow automatic downloading without your consent.

Riskier options:

  • Email attachments that can be forwarded without your knowledge and uploaded to chatgpt.

Wscripted+ is built specifically to protect writer IP. Your project is stored securely with encryption and view permissions are strictly controlled. Your materials remain private until you approve a professional’s access.

Where can I upload my script safely?

Safer options:

  • Platforms like Wscripted+ that provide:

    • Encrypted storage and confidentiality

    • Controlled view and download permissions

    • AI models in escrow to protect your IP and copyrighted materials

    • Extra protection on PDF of copyrighted materials

Can AI models train on my screenplay?

No—Wscripted+ is designed so external AI models cannot train on your screenplay.

Wscripted+ uses AI only for:

  • Project summaries

  • Character descriptions

  • Audio narration

  • Recommendations

Your full screenplay file is never used to train external AI models.

Our AI models and prompts are held in escrow and cannot be sold or repurposed with your content. Your screenplay remains encrypted and isolated from any third‑party.

Should I register with WGA or US Copyright Office?

US Copyright Office

  • Offers the strongest legal protection and the clearest evidence of ownership

  • Registration takes time, but it is the gold standard in a legal dispute

  • Wscripted partners with Cosynd to help simplify registration

WGA

  • Provides timestamped proof of authorship

  • You can register directly through WGA registration services

Wscripted+

  • Hosting your project on Wscripted+ also creates a record of your screenplay and its authorship over time

  • This does not replace formal registration, but can support your evidence of authorship if needed

How can I prove my screenplay was written by me if there’s a dispute?

The strongest proof combines multiple records:

  • US Copyright Office registration

  • WGA registration

  • Cosynd online copyright registration

  • Wscripted+ hosting records

What is “chain of title”?

“Chain of title” is the complete ownership documentation of a intellectual property.

Producers, financiers, and distributors need clean chain of title before they commit money or release a project, to avoid lawsuits for copyright infringement or unauthorized use of IP.

Examples of underlying IP elements include:

  • Music rights

  • Brands and trademarks

  • Source books or underlying stories

  • Life rights (for biopics)

  • Podcasts, articles, or other adaptations

Writers should keep clear records of agreements, assignments, and registrations for all materials that feed into a project.
